Billy Monama presents the 4th edition ‘Back To The Future’ concert, taking place on the 08th February 2025, in partnership with Soweto Theatre, supported by National Arts Council. This concert is a one night only concert that plays like Monama’s auto-biography, reflecting on his musical journey by looking into the future. The concert offers a unique journey that echoes Monama’s musical voice and inspires the audience to embrace the future with optimism and a renewed sense of identity. The concert, has been running for over three years, and it has become a significant event in South Africa’s music scene.
“Back to the Future” is the birthchild, curated and directed by renowned guitarist, author, producer and composer, Billy Monama.
• This year’s, 4th edition is designed to help us reflect and celebrate as a nation during the 30th year anniversary of democracy in South African through the musical journey of the past composers and musicians in three decades.
• This is a one night only concert with eight segments in two sets.
• A one-day workshop facilitated by music professionals and educator’s week prior the show, 30 January.
The concert offers all type of audience a unique opportunity to witness a diverse range of musical experience from kwaito, jazz, Afro soul/Jazz in eight configurations presentation: Genesis, Black Consciousness, Tribute to the Masters, Intercession, The Love Corner, Afrocentric Corner, Revelations, and Tribute to South African Women This concert is a compelling musical journey of Monama that reflects 27 years of his artistic evolution while offering a message of optimism, renewal for the future and a poignant reflection on the nation’s memory. In an effort to create a truly unforgettable experience, Monama invited prolific guest artists, and award-winning songwriters: Monoea and Zamajobe.
In the upbeat words of Monama: “We strongly believe that in order to have a clearer perception of the Present, in our pursuit of the Future, it is imperative that we meaningfully reflect onto the Past, we are like time travelers in the future through music”.
