Nelson Mandela died on Dec 5, 2013. At this day the Ubuntu Initiative was born with the project “Caravan – Tribute to Nelson Mandela”.
The “Caravan – Tribute to Nelson Mandela” is to honor former South African President and Nobel Peace Prize winner Nelson Mandela and his legacy: the fight for a free society based on harmony and equal opportunities.
According to recent developments in society worldwide this is an aim that we all should fight for in the spirit of the great Mandela to make the world a better place for all of us and especially our children.
More than ever, we should all be aware that a democratic society needs open minds and cross-cultural dialogue.
Berlin hosted this event four times in a row, which featured many bands playing a variety of musical styles- Reggae, Hip-Hop, Funk / Soul, Jazz, Latin music, World music and others – to symbolize the ideas of Mandela, by bringing together different influences to create “Ubuntu in art”.
The caravan tribute to Nelson Mandela 2024 will take place in Johannesburg at the Soweto theatre with the line up:
– Louis-Jean & Irie Rainbow (Reggae / Berlin/ Senegal)
– Paul Hanmer( Township-Jazz/ Jo’burg)
– Thuthukani Cele (Reggae/ Jo’burg)
