Soweto Theatre‘s Youth Development has invited schools be part of the 2017 Shakespeare’s schools Festival (SSF). The opportunity is created for school pupils to make their theatre debut on a professional stage in a non-competitive environment and to also engage their education curriculum for the first time on a professional stage regardless of background, ability or location.
This year the festival will take place from the 20th to the 22rd of September between 8am -3pm, at the Yellow Theatre. Students from Naledi High School, Freedom Park, SG Mafaesa Secondary School, Beyers Naude Secondary School,Adelaide Tambo ,Methodz Acting Academy will be dramatizing Shakespearean classics such as”Romeo & Juliet” , “Hamlet”& “The Merchant of Venice” and to assist each participating school, Soweto Theatre will provide transport, lunch and supper for the cast on the performance day.
This exciting experience will build capacity, character and will allow the students to explore aptitudes in a range of work fields such as history/geography ; wardrobe and props advisors; student company managers; creative directors in music and art; marketing, sound and lighting, directing and various other career-shaping experiences. United by a life-changing opportunity to integrate with one another across the barriers of language, background through education and community-building.
