The Roots is a South African Gospel and Traditional Acapella ensemble, founded by Clarissa Nchabeng a former member of the Grammy Award winning Soweto Gospel Choir.

The Roots cast members hail from Soweto, consisting of 8 exceptional vocalists and indigenous drums players.
Our music has a unique indigenous sound with smooth harmonies complimented by our African inspired wardrobe and make up.

Our brand is a true representation of our diverse country and continent at large in its sound and image.

We are proudly South African and value the preservation of our traditional sounds.

The group is not only aimed at creating exceptional musical material but exists to promote job creation in the performing art landscape as most its members are 100% performers depending on the group solely for income.
We hope with the group, we will inspire young people to consider performing arts as a career choice.

The Roots has performed at many prestigious events. Recently the group performed at the Naledi Awards where they shared a stage with the Legendary Mbongeni Ngema’s Sarafina Musical.

The group recently released an EP titled Tshohle , which consists of 3 tracks. The songs will be available for on -line downloads on various digital music platforms in the month of November 2017 right in time for the festive season!
