UBHUKU LWAMANQE

Part of the Schools Setwork Festival at Soweto Theatre.

Prepare to be captivated as Soweto Theatre unveils an exhilarating school setworks festival, gracing schools throughout Gauteng province from April 16 to April 26, 2024.

Pioneering the fusion of theatre and education, this extraordinary project aims to ignite creative thinking and individual expression. The School Setworks festival promises to be an unmissable opportunity for all Gauteng schools to witness the magic of their isiZulu set book, Ubhuku Lwamanqe, brought to vivid life right within their school grounds.

Ubhuku Lwamanqe, is a powerful play that unravels a gripping narrative of people entangled in the complexities of conflict, secrets, broken promises, crime, and the inevitable consequences that shatter their lives. This metaphorical masterpiece underscores that our choices, no matter how hidden, eventually catch up with us, and in this tale, bad decisions lead to a catastrophic outcome.

The live screening of Ubhuku Lwamanqe will be an opportunity for students to enhance their analytical, interpretive, and self-expression skills while engaging with the books featured in the 2024 curriculum set by the Gauteng Department of Education.

“We extend a warm invitation to all schools, granting learners and educators the chance to witness their set book’s storyline unfold in a completely unique form. Our theatre troupe will journey to your school, accompanied by the talented cast, allowing for an interactive question and answer session following the screening. This experience also serves as a window into the boundless artistic talents of local theatre practitioners. As we persist in delivering the pinnacle of South African performing arts through initiatives such as this, we eagerly await your presence at your schools in the near future,” expressed James Ngcobo, Artistic Director of Joburg City Theatres.

This theatre initiative, to be performed and recorded before a live audience, will be accessible to students for just R80 per learner.

Stay tuned for a forthcoming release of the complete cast list, show schedule, and timings on our social media platforms. Prepare to be swept away by the enchanting world of Ubhuku Lwamanqe as we bring the magic of the theatre to your school!
