Celebrating turning 25 years old of Jazz on the Lake. The show will feature one of South Africa’s greatest female vocalists in the country, Zonke as well as Queen Cora (Cora C Coleman-Dunham), former drummer for Beyoncé and Prince, will be showcasing her drum mastery with a South African band of celebrated artists. Great pianist Nduduzo Makhathini, and winner of the Standard Bank Young Artist Award. Idols contestant Amanda Black whose debut studio album was certified platinum three weeks after its release. Jamaican Dancehall/Reggae singer and actress Alaine that has featured on many big hits both of her own and a rhythm section band featuring world renowned Reggae Jazz producer, arranger, song writer and saxophone player Dean Fraser.

  • Surrounding roads will be closed off. Concertgoers are encouraged to use Free Park n Ride Metro Buses. From: Metro Centre at Loveday Street in Braamfontein or Killarney Mall, Killarney, and Marks Park, Emmarentia. Buses start driving from 9.30am onwards to the Zoo Lake, returning late afternoon!
  • No bottles, Weapons, Alcohol, Pets or hard cooler boxes will be allowed on the buses! #JOTL #ArtsAlive2017. Food and drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) will be for sale at the beer garden at affordable prices.
  • Jazz on the Lake, the premier Arts Alive event, celebrates 25 years on the cultural calendar. It is a family event, featuring a stellar range of award winning home-grown and overseas talent. The concert starts promptly at 10am and ends exactly at 5.00pm.

 

Featuring in order of appearance: * Nduduzo Makhathini, leading jazz pianist and winner of the Standard Bank Young Artist Award.* Sibongile Khumalo, showcasing South Africa’s first lady of jazz and opera, together with her band. * Amanda Black, award-winning local powerhouse singer-songwriter whose debut studio album was certified platinum within three weeks of its release.* Queen Cora (Cora C Coleman-Dunham), former drummer for Beyoncé and Prince, will be showcasing her drum mastery with a South African ensemble featuring Bokani Dyer (Keyboards), Tlale Makhene (percussion), Mandla Mlangeni (trumpet), Sibusiso Sibanyoni (bass), Louis Mhlanga (guitar), guest singer Zamajobe and the Resonance String Quartet. Queen Cora /SA ensemble will also feature pianist Britney Bloom (USA), lead pianist for the Joe Sample Orchestra and musical director for Queen Cora. Steve Dyer is the musical director for the SA ensemble. * Alaine and Dean Fraser (Jamaica). Dancehall/reggae singer and actress Alaine, one of the most sought-after Jamaican artists on the live circuit on the African continent, is a leading singer on many international big hits to come out of Jamaica – her own hits as well as those of other international artists. Dean Fraser is Jamaica’s leading saxophone player, band arranger and composer, who enjoys legendary status among Jamaican artists. * Zonke, award-winning, acclaimed afro soul singer and songwriter.
