Right in your backyard is a concept that Themba Dlamini and Katlego Magano, put on their platform [www.oakave.co.za]. This is to educate our communities on illnesses/conditions that most black individuals in Africa are still on the edge about and lack the fundamental knowledge to discuss in the open.
Profiling 3 individuals that are affected by these conditions, individuals that are strong and comfortable enough to come forward and speak about what they go through on a daily basis. The concept also highlights some stigmas that along the years have attached themselves with the illness and portraying that individual within that stigma.
Now Oak Ave in partnership with Soweto Theatre brings the talk to the people, starting to educate the society that we live in today about these conditions in a creative manner and highlighting some of the positives that one has had during the time of the condition.
The panel discussion with our 3 featured individuals, a psychologist, medical practitioner will delve into what the society has perceived the illnesses as, which would be in most cases negative and a death sentence.
Entrance to this event is free, all you need to do is RSVP by sending your name and contact number to events@oakave.co.za or send a whatsapp to 083 751 3748
